Top 6 Wedding Tips

1. Book the venue you want as soon as you know the date.  More than likely, others want to use the same facility for their weddings so book it as far in advance as possible (be prepared to pay a holder's fee).

2. This is your wedding, make sure you can enjoy it.  Plan things out in advance and delegate the things that are trivial to you.

3. Find out what is important to you.  Do you want good pictures?  Good food?  Good video?  Good DJ services?  Chances are you are on a budget and can't get the best of everything.  Prioritize what you would most want to have and work your way down the list.

4. Hire a wedding coordinator that knows what they are doing (don't let Aunt Sue do it).  This simple step will make your special day go that much smoother and they will take care of the headache, as that is what you are paying them for.  We have seen weddings become stressful for the bride in an instant because the wedding coordinator was a family friend who volunteered to help and they did not know what they were doing.  Don't cut this corner.

5. Ask around.  You have friends who have gotten married.  Find out who they used for what and if they liked them and if they would use them again if they had it to do over again.  Also, don't be afraid to ask your vendors who they recommend.  Chances are, if you find one vendor you like, they know others that they work well with and will be able to recommend them to you.  Also, there is a greater chance that you will like their recommendations if you like the initial vendor.  Although, with that being said, you do want to make sure that they do not give you their recommendations solely based on referral commissions.  Sometimes money causes someone to go against their best judgment.  That is why it is always a good idea to speak with and meet with the vendors.

6. Ask questions.  Ask a lot of questions.  If you have questions don't feel ashamed to ask.  Make sure you understand what you are being told. There are too many vendors out there for you to choose from that are able to do what you need done from catering to musicians to videography.  Don't settle for the sales pitch.  Have some questions written down before you ever make the call so that way you can mark them off your list as they are answered.  You should make several copies (for every vendor you will ask these questions) and after speaking with each review them and see which one fits you best.  The next step is to negotiate prices if there are more than one that you would consider using based on the offerings.  Price isn't everything though; you need to be able to speak with the person who will be working with you and meet them if possible to ensure that they are a good fit for you.
